These
seven-day institutes are rigorous professional development
programs that bring teachers together to work with
constitutional scholars from a variety of disciplines.
Participants complete academic readings, attend morning
lectures, and participate in afternoon sessions dedicated to the
content and teaching methods appropriate to the We the People:
The Citizen and the Constitution curriculum. At the close of the
institute, teachers participate in a simulated congressional
hearing.
Interested teachers will need to complete an application,
provide a written statement, secure written administrative
support to conduct a We the People simulated congressional
hearing in their classroom, and provide a letter of
recommendation from a past or present colleague.
The applications are available at
www.civiced.org, and can be
accessed by choosing Professional Development, We the People:
The Citizen and the Constitution from the menu at the top of the
Home page.
